The Tug River Region
The Big Sandy River flows in a northerly direction from Kentucky and West Virginia to the Ohio River.  The Big Sandy has two main forks: the Levisa Fork, which runs through Pikeville, Kentucky, and the Tug Fork, which forms the border between Kentucky and West Virginia.  While technically a "fork" of the Big Sandy, the Tug is often referred to as the Tug River.
There is a narrow valley that forms on both sides of the Tug River with West Virginia on one side of the valley, and Kentucky on the other.  Today, Mingo County, WV roughly forms the Tug Valley on the West Virginia side.
